Christmas wall hangingClick image to enlarge Designer: Patti Milazzo Giving and receiving handmade gifts has become more special to me and my family in recent years. Small items, like this decorative Christmas mini quilt, are simple to make yet will add a personal touch to your gift giving this season. Difficulty rating
Instructions (Print version) Start by applying an iron-on adhesive to the back of fabric scraps. Then use the Ultra ShapeXpress and Christmas Shape Template to cut out holly leaves, berries, a tree and ornament or other shapes you wish to use. Leave the paper backing on until you’re ready to iron the shapes onto your quilt.
Fabric block measurements: Remove the paper backing from the Christmas shapes and arrange them on the fabric blocks. Iron pieces to secure them. Add decorative stitching, buttons or other embellishments. For the sentiment, hand stitch on solid fabric. Cut fabric for back of quilt, layer batting and place decorative front on top. Pin in place. Then machine (or hand) stitch around fabric blocks and on or around appliqué shapes. For a novice like me, Fiskars Sewing Multi Tool is especially wonderful to have close at hand!
Bind the quilt’s edges. Cut and fold ribbon strips in half and pin at top of quilt. Stitch buttons in place to secure ribbon.
