Here are a couple chokers that are quick and easy to make using an assortment of Fiskars wire tools. Use them as stocking stuffers for your own teenagers or let them make these handmade gifts for friends. Difficulty rating
Instructions (Print version) Now cut 36” of leather cord and fold in half. At the fold, tie a knot creating a small loop (½” – ¾”) – this is part of the clasp. Move approximately 6” down the cord from there and tie another knot. Then weave the two open ends of the cord through the link and pull the link close to the knot. Tie another knot on the other side of the link “locking” it in place. Thread silver tube beads on each individual cord and tie another knot on the other side. Alternate this pattern until you have a 3” – 4” design. To complete the other side of the clasp, tie a knot 1 ½” from the end, then thread the open ends through one bead and tie a final knot. Now the beaded end can slip through the loop on the other end of the choker to create a closure.
In addition to the other wire tools, Fiskars Right Angle Tool is also great for making wire designs. Create circles, ovals, triangles and squares in various sizes. For this more feminine choker, I used the Right Angle tool to create a silver link. Then I used the Wire Winder to make a kind of chandelier component to hang beaded headpins from.
Attach the link to the chandelier with a jump ring, then attach a beaded headpin to each of the chandeliers outer loops. For the center use a jump ring to attach another beaded headpin to the center where the wire crosses. Finally, thread a piece of leather cord through the link. Either tie the ends or create a similar clasp as in the first design.
