Love NotesClick image to enlarge ![]() Like most stay-at-home moms, I dread AND look forward to school starting each Fall. I look forward to a little quiet time when the kids are back in school but I will miss them at the same time. A few years ago, when my son was old enough to stay at school for lunch each day, I made a promise to myself that I would add a tiny little love note to his lunches every now and again to let him know that I missed him while he was away. I was inspired to add a small magnet to the back of that first tin so that the little love notes box would stick right on the refrigerator to jog my memory to add notes to lunches I was making in the morning. I was excited to have that first set of little notes and the tin I created to hold them appear in Scrapbooks Etc. magazine at the time but each year, I feel like I should make a fresh set of notes and that always leads me to making new tins to start off the year. This week, I'm making new lunch notes and tins and I'd like to share with you how easy and inexpensive they are to make. They make great gifts for moms experiencing the sadness of having their little ones start school for the first time too. Difficulty rating
Instructions (Print version) ![]() Instructions for covering the outside of the box or tin: Measure your tin or box against a sheet of patterned paper. Using your rotary trimmer, cut a piece of patterned paper wide and long enough to wrap completely around the tin (the size of this paper will be vary, depending on the size of the tin you use). ![]() Take your Fiskars adhesive and apply adhesive directly to your tin and then wrap the paper around the tin completely. To cover the top of your box or tin, cut a piece of coordinating pattern paper that is slightly larger than the top. Add adhesive directly to the tin or box and adhere the paper to the top. Now turn the box or tin upside down so that the patterned paper is resting on your cutting mat. Use your Fiskars fingertip craft knife to careful trim the excess off the sides of the top for a clean, custom look. To embellish the outside of your tin, use your favorite Fiskars border punches and Fiskars Squeeze Punches to create inexpensive embellishments from the remaining scraps of patterned paper.
When you are done embellishing the tin or box, cut a small piece of magnet and affix it to the back of your finished project so you can place it on your refrigerator as a reminder to add love notes to family lunches.
Instructions for Creating Love Notes to Go Inside Your Tin: The love notes inside the tins can be mini cards or tags- let your creativity be your guide. The only limitation you have is the physical dimension of the box. Supplies: Fiskars Fingertip Craft Knife (12-63057097) |
