When I'm making something by hand, there isn't a material I like working with
more than fabric. No matter what I'm doing, whether it's something that would
obviously require fabric such as sewing or whether it's something that's
traditionally considered a paper craft like scrapbooking, I like to always
incorporate some fabric.

I recently discovered the book Stitched Textile Collage by Lucille Toumi. I
was inspired by one of her collages in the book to create this card. It took a
lot of time to piece everything together but one nice thing about it is the
quilted portion of the card can be removed, the sentiment quickly removed, and
the piece framed so it's a small gift in addition to a card!

One thing I love about the Fiskars Rotary Trimmers is they use the same blades
as the Rotary Cutters we use to cut fabric. And that means the trimmers, which
we think of as a paper crafting tool, can be used to cut small sections of
fabric. Much quicker than getting out the cutting mat and rotary trimmer!

I started this card by cutting a 7" x 7" square of muslin.

Next I used my No. 8 Razor Edge Scissors to cut lots of squares from a variety
of blue fabrics and laid them out on my muslin base. Fusible web can be used
to hold the squares in place but some of the materials I chose to use had a
texture that was too heavy to adhere with it. I ended up laying the whole
piece on a 7" x 7" piece of cardstock to add stability and keep the squares in
place for the stitching step.

This is what it looks like after stitching all the squares in place.

Using the Butterflies 2 Shape Template, I traced the shapes onto the wrong
side of a variety of fabrics.

These were stitched to the quilted base.  I completed the quilting by adding
hand stitches and beads and adhered it to a card base.

And now I have a combination card/gift to send to someone special, just to let
them know I'm thinking of them.
