Quilted Cell Phone Cover

Designer: Deb Perry

For Mother’s Day, I was given a trendy quilted purse.  I thought it would be fun to have a quilted cell phone cover as well.  Fiskars sewing tools took this project from concept to complete in under an hour.

Instructions (Print version)

  1. Fold Fabric in half, then in half again.  Place Cell Phone on top.  Draw a line ( ½” out) from outer edge of phone.  Cut out  shapes with Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat.  You should have 4 shapes.  Use one of these shapes as a pattern to cut out 2 pieces of Fusible Fleece of the same size.
  2. Fold Fusible Fleece in half.  Use one of the fabric shapes as a pattern to cut out fleece as well.  Cut out using Rotary Cutter.  Follow manufacturer’s instructions to apply to fabric on wrong side of two shapes.  Add remaining two pieces of fabric to each top and press with iron.  With right sides together, machine stitch top edge only ( ¼” seam).  Turn flap to right side and press.
  3. Machine quilt (right sides) of both fabric pieces.   Add Rick Rack trim (1” in) from outer edge taking care to pivot machine carefully around curves.  With right sides together, stitch front to back using a ½” seam.  Trim seams, clip notches in curves.  Turn right side and press.  Top stitch ¼” away from top edge to finish.
