Designer: May Flaum

I love utilizing elements from clothing into my crafting. When I saw this shirt at the gap outlet I just had to have it! Then, wanting to scrapbook the photos from Rebecca's 9 month birthday I figured out how to use my stylus to trace out the design so I could make my own little elephant for my layout. With a little thought and creative use of your Fiskars tools you can recreate most anything!

Instructions (Print version)

Creating the elephant-

1. Start by using a thin piece of paper and a stylus to trace and lightly emboss the outline of the elephant directly from the t-shirt

2. Cut out the image, then flip over and trace onto white cardstock. Then draw a line around that image about 1/8" from the original. Cut out the elephant using your craft knife.

note: I say to flip it over so that you are drawing and cutting on the back side. This way, if you aren't perfect in your lines, need to make other marks, etc. it's ok! It won't be seen because it's the back.

3. Touch up with craft knife or detail scissors if needed, then adhere the elephant outline to brown patterned paper. Cut out the shape again, staying right on the edge of the outside of elephant.

4. Add flowers to elephant to decorate and adhere to layout.

Creating the layout-

1. Punch one side of yellow patterned paper with decorative border punch. Then print out a photo collage (or simply mat photos on white paper)

2. Adhere photos to yellow patterned paper about 1/2" above the scalloped edge. Then trim so that paper has about 1/4" border showing on top and sides. Adhere to background paper.

3. Add journaling mount, flowers, elephant, and letter stickers. Finish by adding journaling and pen detail.

note: see what fun you can add to your next layout by taking a cue from your subject's clothing!
