camera case and bookClick image to enlarge Designer: Pomaika'i Miyata aka ScrapAloha I've been a scrapper for years and before that a sew-er. I grew up with Fiskars tools and still have my first pair of Gingher Scissors in great working order! After working on this project, I have to say that I love the new Fiskars Softgrip Craft Knife. It makes cutting through chipboard a breeze. Kimberly Poloson's Nature's Flora products are beyond beautiful. I loved the embossed paper, so rich to work with. Also, take a look at the stamps, they are gorgeous! Thanks for letting me share my project with you. Difficulty rating
Instructions (Print version)
Find an old camera case at a thrift store or at a small local camera dealer and measure the inside of the case to see what size your album can be (I cut a piece of paper and put it inside my case and closed it to make sure my measurements were accurate).
![]() Covers Use your Craft Knife to cut out two pieces of chipboard for your mini book covers (mine was 3.5 x 4.5"). **I will use my measurements for clarity in the rest of the directions. Your measurements might be different depending on your camera case. Temporarily clip your covers together (bulldog clip) and drill three holes about a .25" in from one edge of your chipboard. Use a centering ruler to distribute the holes evenly. Use patterned paper to cover your chipboard one side at a time. Make sure to punch your holes in one side before covering the other. (I used Matte Gel Medium, but you can use adhesive too). I used Alphabet stickers to spell out "Boundless" around the top and right side and added a butterfly and flourish sticker. Title Page Cut 5 cardstock pages for your album, the same size or just slightly smaller than your covers. Title page example: I adhere patterned paper to the page (I like to ink all the edges of my patterned paper). Add a strip of 4.5 x 1.5" coordinating paper across the center of the page. Cut a 1.75 x 2.5" piece of black cardstock, round the corners and place butterfly from Dimensional Icons Sticker sheet. Adhere to right side of the page over the coordinating strip. Place two sticker flourishes from the Alphabet Sticker sheet above and below the embellishment. Pocket Page I have 2 pocket pages in this album. You can make as many as you want. Cut two pages with 1.5" added to the height (5 x 4.5"). Fold the extra 1.5" up so that you ended up with a page with a lower pocket (3.5 x 4.5"). Cover with paper, then glue the two sides of the pocket together. Tag--cut a 3 x 3.5" piece of cardstock, round corners. Cover with paper or photograph and punch three holes in the top. Add a ribbon to each hole. (I matted both front and back of the tag). Add "genuine" dimensional sticker backed with black cardstock with corners rounded, and print a quote to place on the page facing the pocket. Embellish your pages with stickers.
Stamped Pages Use acrylic paint that matches your project. I use full strength paint and apply by dabbing my brush on the stamp. This gives a nice uneven texture. Let dry. Add cropped photograph cardstock and/or stickers to embellish.
Assembling Your Album Using your covers as a guide, punch binding holes in all of your pages. Bind your album by stringing ribbon through the covers and holes. Add a little dab of glue when you knot your ribbons so that they remain tight. Camera Case Decorate to match your project. I used acrylic paint on my stamps. This is where acrylic stamps are great for embellishing 3-dimensional objects. Don't use your acrylic block. Just paint directly onto your stamp and use your hand to press your flexible stamp around your object. Let the paint dry. Use a coat of Gel Medium to seal your acrylic paint onto your camera case. Place your book in to your camera case and enjoy!
