beaded book thongs

If you’re like me, you have a stack of books you want to read this summer. These book thongs can be just what you need and are easily made with an assortment of Fiskars wire tools. They’re a fun way to mark your place with a little style.

Green and Silver Beaded Book Thong
1. Cut cord to fit an average sized book. For this project, I cut the cord to 26” which fits nicely with a 9” hardcover book.
2. Create an arrangement of beads on headpins for each end of the cord.
Note: On one end, I created a single line of beads with 3 dangling beads on individual small headpins. On the opposite end, I created 3 separate beaded headpins – the center one has a dangling bead on a small headpin. Try to create some balance between the two ends.
3. Use the Needle Nose Pliers and Micro-Tip Pliers to create the loops at the end of the headpins where the jump rings will be attached.
4. I created my own triple loop jump rings with the Right Angle Tool and used these at the top of each beaded arrangement.
5. Loop a cord end through the triple loop jump ring and fold over. Then wrap wire around this to bind the cord together. Use the Flat Nose Pliers and Wire Cutter to keep a firm grip and remove any excess wire.
Black and White Ribbon Book Thong
1. For this book thong, create beaded headpins in a similar fashion as the first project.
Note: One end is a single beaded headpin with a large bead. The other end has 2 separate tails with beaded headpins and looped wire links.
2. But for this one I created a looped wire link that joins the top and bottom head pins on one end. To create the loops use Wire Winder and Wire Winder Templates.
3. Once the beaded pieces are complete, cut a 52” piece of narrow ribbon and fold in half. Loop the large beaded piece through the folded end to secure.
4. For the tail ends, use large crimp beads to secure the ribbon in place.
