Instructions
(Print version)
- In a large glass bowl, mix 1/2 cup Carpenter's Wood Glue with 1/4 cup water. Stir well with spoon. Crumple paper bag paper into small ball, then dip into the solution. Cover entire piece of crumpled paper bag piece. Open the crumpled ball, then use 2 clothespins to hang one end of the glue-covered paper to a wire coat hanger. Hang coat hanger on doorknob and leave to dry overnight.
- From the smooth section of a paper grocery bag, cut a piece to measure 14" X 10". (This piece does not need to be a perfect rectangle) Also cut 3 strips (these should be of slightly varying width to add character) to measure 14" X 2". Crumple all pieces and dip into glue/water mixture described above. Attach large piece by one end to a coat hanger using 2 clothes pins. Attach the 3 strips to the other coat hanger using clothes pins. Allow to dry overnight.
- Place a small amount of maroon paint on one paper plate, and antique white on another plate. Paint 2 strips Antique White and large piece Maroon. (Leave one strip unpainted). Cut unpainted strip in half to create 2 strips that measure 7" X 2". Paint one of the 2 smaller strips white. Set aside to dry.
- Using ShapeCutter, Stars ShapeTemplate and craft mat, cut 4 small stars of varying size from remaining unpainted strip. Paint these stars Antique White and set aside to dry.
- Measure and mark a piece in upper left corner of large red piece to measure 5" high by 7" wide. Paint this area Nightfall Blue. Allow all pieces to dry.
- Once all pieces are dry, use Craft Bond Glue to adhere white strips and stars. Lay flat to dry for 1 hour. Punch a hole approximately 2" in from each edge near top of flag. Cut a piece of raffia to measure approximately 24". String one end of raffia through one hole from front to back. String other end of raffia through other hole. Tie knots in each end behind flag to create a hanging string. Cut another strand of raffia to measure approximately 30". Tie in bow around "hanging string" raffia. Trim ends to desired length.
