i've been wanting to make ornaments for the grandparents that utilize our annual christmas pictures and, when i saw these 5x5 canvas frames, i knew exactly what i wanted to do. this ornament uses this year's christmas picture and i've made a dozen other ornaments for each of the grandparents, one for each year we've had kids. once i saw the completed project i had to make a set for myself, too, and we've put them on their own 4-foot tree in the foyer. it's so cool to see how the children have grown over the years and to see these ornaments together. it's a fast and easy project with BIG impact.
directions:
1. apply thin layer of modpodge to top and sides of canvas frame. adhere tissue paper to canvas, gently wrapping the tissue paper over the side.
apply second thin layer of modpodge on top of tissue paper and set aside to dry.
2. once dry, trim the edges of your tissue paper so that you have a 1-inch hem. flip your canvas over, apply modpodge to the back edges of the frame, and wrap your tissue paper around. you may need to apply another thin layer of modpodge to secure the paper. set aside to dry.
3. print your photo. punch a small hole in upper right-hand corner of your photo and attach the 'jingle bells' charm to your photo.
4. apply modpodge to back of photo. measure where you would like to place your photo and, using your acrylic ruler as a guide, place photo on canvas and apply another layer of modpodge over the top, being careful to not get any modpodge on your charm. i used a matte photo paper for my photo.
5. using your fiskars hand drill, drill a small hole in the top of the frame. screw in small hook.
6. thread ribbon through the hook and tie knot. trim edges of the ribbon.
7. apply rub-on to the upper-left corner of your photo.
8. place rain dots randomly on tissue paper.
9. glue thin decorative ribbon along the bottom of your photo and wrap around to the back of your frame.
10. write the year on your small tag, attach to decorative pin and then stick the pin through your ribbon knot at the top of your frame.
