Stamping with Fiskars
Did you know that Fiskars now offers over 100 different acrylic stamp sets? Not only are acrylic stamp sets fun to use, but Fiskars offers a tool that can help you make wonderful stamped creations. It's called the stamp press, and today I will share with you how to use it with your stamps, as well as show you several project samples.
If you’re like me, you’re always looking for any way to save a bit of time. One of my favorite time-saving crafting tools is the Fiskars stamp press. It has endless creative possibilities in its use, and it has changed the way that I look at stamping. Simply follow these steps to using your own stamp press tool, and you will be amazed by the many ideas that you come up with for all of your various paper crafting projects.
Start by selecting the acrylic stamp set(s) that you want to use for your project. Then peel off the clear acrylic stamps selected and decide on how you’d like them arranged for your project. The Fiskars stamp press has a clear removable plate that you place and arrange your stamps onto. The actual stamp press itself has holes that the stamp plate fits into, and also has a measurement grid that is perfect for lining up your stamps to ensure that they are straight, as shown here. The removable stamp plate can be popped in to and out of the actual stamp press itself – which is helpful when you’re using more than one stamp design on a project. OR if you want to save a design created for later use. Simply keep extra stamp plates handy, and you’ll be able to switch out designs in no time at all.
The next step in using your stamp press is the actual inking of the stamps. Because your stamp design will typically be larger than the surface size of a standard stamp pad, you are going to want to pick up your stamp pad and ink your stamps from the top, as shown.
Lightly press the ink onto the entire design until all stamps are covered with ink. If your hand slips and inks the actual press plate itself, don’t worry - just quickly wipe it clean with a tissue or q-tip. Next double-check that your stamp plate is firmly in place on the stamp press, and then flip the press over so that it is resting on its cute little orange foam feet, directly over the material you want to stamp onto. Line up the press, using the measurement grids in relation to your project, and then press down. I use both hands to press evenly on each of the sides of the stamp press, ensuring an even, overall impression of all stamps onto my paper or material.
The “many thanks” design created in the steps above uses both the etcetera, etcetera stamp and heidi grace thank you stamp sets, and was created for a card. Once the images were stamped I filled in the space between the stamped images with flowers and punchboard embellishments. I love that I was able to stamp an ENTIRE CARD with just one press. If you are creating many of these thank you cards at once, just imagine the amount of time saved! (note: papers and embellishments from heidi grace "daydream believer")
I love creating collages of various stamps on the stamp plate, and ended up creating my own background patterned paper for this layout, with a variety of new Heidi Grace Designs stamps. After my collage was created, I simply repeatedly stamped the design across a 12x12 sheet of cardstock until the entire piece was covered with the design. The result was a custom background!
And don’t think that stamping is just for paper. One of my favorite alternative mediums to stamp on is FABRIC! Staz On ink works great for this, and the images appear crisp and clear, creating a fun textural element for your layout or project. Simply use the stamp press according to the directions above, just imprint onto fabric, and you’ll have a beautiful design with minimal effort.
I used my stamped fabric to wrap a wine bottle up for a friend. The possibilities are truly limitless!
When you are done creating, remove your stamps from the stamp plate and gently clean them with warm water or my favorite method – using baby wipes. Dry them with a paper towel, and place them back onto the packaging sheet that they came from, making it easy for you to find the stamp you are looking for the next time you want to use it.
