our celebrationsAll month long here at Fiskars Crafts we will be sharing celebration and party ideas. To kick things off, I've asked members of our design team to create and share a layout about a special celebration in their lives. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do-
Becky Novacek One of my family’s favorite things about summer is being around water! We love it! So I had to do a layout to document our love. And speaking of love, I love my Fiskars Desktop Trimmer! Really I do. I haven’t created a layout without it, since I got it a year ago. It’s the first trimmer I’ve owned that not only cuts straight, but also gives you the option of doing decorative edges. I use my scallop blade a lot and also love the pinking blade.
notes - the product used is Heidi Grace 'we are family', along with a scallop edge blade. Red felt used to cut the heart, and machine stitching used around title.
Janna Wilson My daughter’s birthday is December 31st so this makes for extra special celebrations for us on New Year’s Eve. For the last few years, my girls have loved decorating a cookie cake to take to the annual new year/birthday festivities with friends. It’s pretty cool to Sara that EVERYBODY celebrates on HER day so I captured all these memories in this layout. I’m addicted to scallops…so I tried using the circle Squeeze Punches to create a dramatic scalloped border—now its one of my favorite things to do! Kelly Purkey Living in the city, I was excited to finally live in an apartment that had a backyard… so what better way to celebrate than by throwing a BBQ? Even though my backyard celebration was pretty far from the beach, I used the Beyond the Sea papers because the color scheme just says “summer fun!” to me.
notes- Heidi Grace 'beyond the sea' patterned paper used, as well as lil davis chipboard letters, round 'n round medium and large squeeze punches, the fiskars circle cutter, and cloud paper edgers. Note that the circle punch is used both to punch photos and create accents.
Lisa Storms The 4th of July is one of my very favorite holidays. All of our neighbors get together for a big block party full of good food, friends, and fun. Such an awesome feeling of community and makes me so thankful to live in such a wonderful neighborhood surrounded by great people. 4th of July layouts open up all kinds of fun ways to use tools creatively! Here I turned my journaling mount into a firecracker complete with lit fuse, created patriotic stripes by combining white ink with crimped red cardstock, fashioned fireworks from punched stamps embellished with Rain Dots for extra sparkle, and of course slipped in a few stars to complete the theme.
Lisa Truesdell Every year, our neighborhood closes off it’s main street and has a big celebration. Local businesses and restaurants sponser booths and fun events – bounce houses, slides, music, performances – there’s even a parade. We love getting together with our neighbors and celebrating the place we call home. Between the crowds and the harsh afternoon light I didn’t have any great pictures from this event – so I used a series of small photos that captured the highlights of our afternoon.
Growing up, my family didn’t really celebrate birthdays all that much so this may be why I LOVE making a big deal out of my kids’ birthdays! Balloons, streamers and other decorations, favorite meals made to order, cards (even little ones tucked into lunch boxes), cake and presents – accompanied by lots of loud singing, happy birthday wishes, hugs, kisses & lots of photos. Often we celebrate in little ways for days between their actual birthday and their party with friends. Silly and a bit over indulgent it may be, but they LOVE it and we so enjoy making them feel super special on their birthdays. For this layout of my son’s 7th birthday, I chose primary colored papers from Li’l Davis and Heidi Grace collections and then used a variety of Fiskars tools – Squeeze Punches, Shape Templates, the Eyelet Punch Set and Clear Stamps- to keep with my design theme of circles and stars.
Sherelle Christensen When you live on farm, the season for harvesting crops becomes a celebration for the whole family. My husband works so hard all year to ensure that his crops are healthy and bounteous, so we all rejoice together in the harvest. It is a time for family to work together, and my children especially enjoy this special time of year (even thought it is a lot of work). I always make sure to take a lot of photographs so that my children will always remember their upbringing on the farm.
notes on this page- the 'round the bend' corner rounder utilized on photos, Cloud 9's Cinnamon Cluster paper and the Diamond Border punch create the decorative border. In addition cloud 9 foil rimmed letters, chipboard stickers, adn kimberly Poloson green alpha stickers are used.
Stacey Kingman No matter how busy the holiday season gets, we always look forward to making a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas Eve. One of the things that I love about this tradition is that my husband and my kids are completely in charge of the preparation and clean-up! If you look carefully, you’ll see my older daughter drawing a detailed picture of what she wanted the cake to look like. I think my husband did very well in duplicating it!
notes on this page- Heidi Grace paper and alpha stickers used, as well as lil davis invisible alpha and buttons. Machine stitching is used to outline key portions of the layout, and the round the bend corner rounder punch creates lovely effects across the page as well. Susan Weinroth My sister and I were due with our first babies only ONE day apart (july 2007). And then 6 weeks before our joint due dates, she developed preclampsia, which put her baby’s life in danger, and an emergency c-section was needed. We lived across the country from each other at the time, and I couldn’t be there at the birth, or even anytime after when little Baby Paige was in the NICU, and my sister had to leave the hospital without her – because I was at the very end of my own pregnancy and getting ready to deliver my son. So while this layout may just look like a typical birthday page – it means so much more to me. We were all able to gather as a family, and to celebrate Baby’s Paige turning one in June (2008) – which meant so much to me.
notes on this page- Heidi Grace 'beyond the sea' paper and embellishments used, as well as 'round 'n round' squeeze punches. The leave it to weaver punch is also used- and you can see that the edge of one side has been trimmed off to create a wide 'fringy' border strip adhered to the top and the bottom of the page.
Valerie Salmon Having a special cake for just about every occasion has become a tradition in our family. This is something that my husband started even before we were married. I have many photos of all the different cakes we’ve had in the past. I selected several of them in this layout because I want to remember their significance because in our family, a celebration is incomplete without them. Because there are many colors represented in these photos, I selected the Li’l Davis “Secret Garden” line because they complemented the cakes’ colors best. I kept the layout design simple since there are six photos on this page and I wanted to keep the focus on the subjects.
Notes on this layout- Lil Davis 'secret garden' paper and invisible glitter alpha used, as well as the lil davis sentiments stamp set, a little birds tale (heidi grace) chipboard swirls and glitter flowers, fiskars scallop rotary blade, round 'n round L squeeze punch, and the softgrip No.5 micro-tip scissors. You can see that the circle punch and stamp is used in the design for the cakes description/date.
Life is worth celebrating, and I hope that you enjoy scrapbooking your next big - or small - occasion. By Fiskars Design Team « Back to Scrapbooking |

notes on this page- Heidi Grace 'Only Time' and 'Daydream Believer' lines used in this layout, as well as the Lil Davis invisible letters (you), and Fiskars 'Round 'n Round' Squeeze Punches. A clock rub-on was used in place of the letter O. Just one of the fun details to be seen!

notes about this page- Cloud 9 chocolate chalet stamps (for fireworks), rain dots, and foil trimmed alphas, Fiskars eyelet setters, the super sized circle templates with ultra shapeXpress, pinking edgers, squeeze punches (twinkle twinkle, bling bling, and round 'n round), and paper crimper used. The red cardstock is crimped and then inked with white.
Some notes on this layout- Heidi Grace 'we are family' line used, as well as threading water, and machine stitching.
