Fiskars Helps Send "Love" to Troops In Iraq this Christmas"Handmade and heartfelt" would best describe the efforts of the volunteers who made 450 LOVE BOOKS, which are now on their way to the troops deployed in Iraq. Volunteers gathered at arts and crafts centers at four major Air Force bases thru out the Pacific Command. Regardless of rank, everyone pitched in to make the LOVE BOOKS FOR THE TROOPS project a huge success. Volunteers included: Officers, enlisted airmen, DOD teachers and their students, wives of squadron commanders, children of deployed troops, and civilian employees, school children. Fiskars was one of the American manufacturers who donated an abundance of materials and supplies to make this project possible. Thousands of dollars in supplies were donated and put to good use. 5 1/2" X 4" spiral bound books were collaged, embellished, and decorated, with paper, metal, rub on transfers, tape, paint, wire, beads, to create one of a kind books. Each book was an individual work of art sending a message of love and support and appreciation. Fiskars rubbing plates were used for crayon rubbings which were overpainted with watercolors and dye cut into letters and shapes. Special messages were written inside the books. Once completed, the LOVE BOOKS were wrapped in colorful Christmas print bandanas and tied with ribbons. Many of the boooks were wrapped in traditional Japanese manner for a special presentation.
