get chippy with lil davis chipboardThe Li'l Davis chipboard is like good music. You can add it on to any project and it looks great, but when you turn up the volume you can really rock! From adding patterned paper to stamping- your imagination is the limit. Good Fiskars scissors, a craft knife, and cutting mat are excellent tools to utilize with this product, as are many other Fiskars tools. ![]() The chipboard comes in quite a few styles, and there are many ways to use this "naked" chipboard. I've put together a few projects that show you some basic ways to use the chipboard pieces and then some examples that show it kicked up just a bit. ![]() For the cover of my mini album, I took one of the fleur de lis pieces and covered the front with adhesive. I laid a scrap piece of paper on top of it and carefully cut it out using my Fingertip Craft Knife. Some of the rounded corners were a bit hard to get, but Micro-tip Scissors did the job. I love how it looks on the cover because it's a delicate piece that would have been tricky to hand cut without the chipboard support. (Heidi Grace paper, Lil Davis chipboard and stamp, actual pizza menu!)
Now let's add one more step to that idea. For this card, I used the same idea of covering the chipboard with patterned paper but the first thing I did was emboss it. I used my Texturing Plates and Texture Tool to rub on shapes into the paper before adhering it to the front of the chipboard. It adds a subtle and classy texture to flat chipboard. (heidi grace paper and fiskars threading water punch also used)
I love the natural, kraft look of this chipboard and don't mind using it in it's "naked" state. However, you can dress it up a bit with some stamps and colorful ink. For this card, I stamped a message directly onto the chipboard to give it a more personality. (Heidi Grace stamp, Fiskars pinking shears, Heidi Grace and Lil Davis papers used)
Take this idea a little bit further by coloring in your stamping. I painted the buttons white first and after it was dry I stamped on the little rosette. To make them a little brighter, I took my colored pencils and filled in the flowers and leaves. These chipboard buttons were all set to be sewn onto some little pillows. (stamp-
The Li'l Davis chipboard is so pretty that sometimes you don't need to crank it up very much. For this layout I just added teal and blue glitter paint onto it. Just like that, the intricate details of the chipboard really dress up a page. If you want to add one more fun touch to it, layer pieces of chipboard together with some Foam Dots to give it even more dimension. (Heidi Grace paper and stickers, Lil Davis chiboard, epoxy letters, glitter glaze)
You can stamp, paint, distress, cover, glitter, and add anything else you can dream of to the Lil Davis chipboard with the help of a few good Fiskars tools of course. I hope that these ideas have inspired you to play with raw chipboard and add some more fun and dimension to your paper crafting projects. By Kelly Purkey « Back to Paper Crafts |
